State, CBSE, ICSE, IB board Students, seek alternative to physical board exams, move SC

Days after various boards announced that Class 10 and 12 board exams will be conducted in offline mode, students from more than 15 states have moved the Supreme Court. Students are seeking direction by the SC to all boards to not to hold in-person exams.

In a writ petition filed on Saturday, students from the state, CBSE, ICSE and IB boards, have sought an alternative assessment solution to physical board exams (school-class 10 and high school-class 12) so that the declaration of results are on-time and there is an option of improvement exam for those who need it. The petition also states that holding in-person exams for those who haven’t attended more than 5% of their classes offline will put extra pressure on students. The petition includes names of students from Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Rajasthan, and others. The students have also sought direction to University Grants Commission to form a committee to declare the date for admission into various varsities and devise a formula for assessment of Class 12 students who want to pursue their further studies in non-professional courses.
